The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Champeaux 1er Cru comes from 50- and 70-year-old vines. This is the one cuvée that was showing the imprimatur of the growing season; it was just a little too heady for my liking. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, sweet and candied, but just missing the same level of clarity on the finish as, say, the Fonteny or Corbeaux.
